97 Hours in Dubai
Sometimes a voice whispers within you, telling you that you don't belong to this era, making you pose the question to yourself: To which time and age do I belong? This voice and question have consistently accompanied me, especially when I'm in a place or a country, witnessing its civilization and history. Strange sensations erupt within me; everyone around suddenly disappears despite their presence. I find myself delving into the depths of the place, wandering among its caves. I look from the window of its castles to the city, then sit atop the stone of the pyramid, wondering how this great dam, that temple, and those houses touching the clouds above the mountain were built. Then I look at the tents, horses, and the desert, witnessing how these tents transformed into structures embracing the sky. Details here and there! Until I return to my reality, observe my surroundings, and see people.
These details, observed through the history of these civilizations, seem to affirm that I belong to those distant eras. That's why I adore delving into the details of the past. Among these civilizations that made me pause in awe is the civilization of Southeast Arabia, especially in the United Arab Emirates and its city Dubai, which we recognize for its contemporary urban image, often overlooking the doors to its past.
The past has a scent that varies from one place to another. The scent of the past in Dubai is akin to the fragrance of Cambodian oud in a French perfume bottle—a scent resembling the reality you witness today when you set your feet on this land, walking between its neighborhoods, shores, and skyscrapers. It feels like you are wandering between different civilizations and ages!
This enchanting city that seamlessly integrated tremendous progress to become one of the most crucial tourist destinations globally, along with the aroma of ancient history that one can smell behind its towering walls...
A city that whispers that all achievements are only possible with sincerity of intention and the honesty of its ruler.
This desert, which, within twenty years, transformed into the most important city globally, holds its secret not in its oil wealth but in its sincere rulers.
How many wealthy countries are abundant in resources, yet their people are hungry and poor? And how many countries lack real wealth, yet have become among the world's developed ones? Governments are the most powerful influence on the conditions of nations. When a ruler does not lose his moral compass, his people live contentedly.
Everything beckons me to continue the journey—the sun, the sea, and nature. What a crazy life, mirroring my soul, stirring my curiosity to know more. That's why I wander extensively from place to place without getting tired until night comes. I throw my tired body on the bed and sleep like the dead, then wake up to continue my journey into history.....
